Safe and Stress Conscious Transport
Sophia’s Maine Coons is committed to ensuring that every kitten arrives safely and with as little stress as possible. We carefully plan each trip, whether it is a local hand delivery or a longer distance journey, and we only use methods that prioritize the kitten’s wellbeing. No kitten is shipped until we feel they are mature enough, healthy, and properly prepared for travel. Our goal is to make the process smooth and reassuring for both the kitten and their new family.
Shipping Options
Ground Transport and Personal Delivery
Whenever possible, we prefer ground transport and personal delivery arrangements. Depending on your location, we may offer:
• In person pickup at a pre arranged meeting location
• Personal delivery by Sophia or a trusted courier
• Professional, pet only ground transport services
Ground transport allows for more controlled temperatures, frequent monitoring, and regular checks on the kitten. We will discuss available options, timelines, and costs during the reservation process so that you can choose the solution that best fits your needs and schedule.
Air Travel for Kittens
In certain cases, we may arrange air transport through approved airlines that allow pets to travel safely. We only use airlines and flight schedules that we believe provide appropriate conditions, and we avoid extreme temperatures or overly long layovers. Some kittens may be eligible to travel in cabin with a flight nanny, while others may travel in the airline’s pet program, depending on destination and airline rules. All air travel arrangements are discussed in detail with you in advance, including potential dates and estimated travel times.
Travel Preparation for Your Kitten
Health, Comfort, and Documentation
Before any kitten travels, we make sure they are fully prepared:
• A licensed veterinarian examines the kitten and provides a current health certificate, as required for transport.
• Age appropriate vaccinations and deworming are completed and documented.
• The kitten is placed in a secure, well ventilated carrier with soft bedding.
• Food, water, and litter access are considered based on the length of the trip.
We also include a copy of your kitten’s health records, and in many cases, a small blanket or towel that carries familiar scents from our home. These steps help reduce stress and keep your kitten comfortable during the journey.
Shipping Costs and Scheduling
Planning Your Kitten’s Trip
Shipping and delivery costs vary depending on distance, method, and current carrier pricing. We will provide an estimated quote once we know your city, preferred delivery type, and timeframe. Payment for transport is typically due before the trip is scheduled, and in many cases, is separate from the purchase price of the kitten.
Scheduling is coordinated carefully to align with:
• Your availability to receive the kitten
• Airline or transport company schedules
• Weather conditions and seasonal considerations
Kittens will not be shipped if we or the transport provider feel that travel conditions are unsafe or unsuitable. In such cases, we will work with you to select an alternative date or method.
Responsibilities Upon Arrival
Receiving and Settling Your Kitten
When your kitten arrives, it is important that an adult is present to receive and immediately bring them indoors. We recommend:
• Bringing the carrier directly into a quiet room
• Offering fresh water and a small amount of food
• Allowing the kitten time to rest and adjust to new surroundings
Within the first few days, schedule the initial veterinary exam required by our health guarantee and share the travel details with your vet. Mild stress from travel can occur, so a calm environment, consistent routine, and patience will help your kitten settle more quickly. If any concerns arise upon arrival, contact us promptly so we can offer guidance and support.
Limitations and Availability
When Shipping May Not Be Possible
There may be times when shipping or certain types of transport are not available due to airline policy changes, weather issues, or state regulations. In some cases, we may limit shipping to specific regions or prefer that buyers arrange to meet us in person at an agreed location. Our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of the kitten, and all shipping decisions are made with that in mind. We encourage you to discuss your location, flexibility, and preferences early in the process so we can determine the best and safest way to bring your new Maine Coon kitten home.
